Our last few reviews here at CasaSwoop have mostly been dance tracks. Which is good because people (myself included) love to dance. That being said, sometimes you might just want to curl up in bed and vibe to a song that puts you in a different place, another world even. Both of these tracks are dream inducing masterpieces. I’ve been waiting for the right moment to bring Mt. Wolf on this page and now is as good a time as any. The original starts out with a nice finger picked acoustic guitar, a simple sustained synth, and that gorgeous lead female vocal. The effects they put on the vocal make it sound like an other-worldly aria. All of these elements come together to make a soothing and dynamic track. The Catching Flies remix takes each element and tweaks it just enough to give it a bit more of a brooding sound. The first thing he does is drop the key on the vocal into something a bit fuller. He then introduces this Asian-style dulcimer and brings up the beat a little more. Then, as a complete surprise at the 3:00 mark, in comes the alto saxophone. No I’m not kidding. It’s a sexy, sultry saxophone that jazzes the track right up. The depth and layering in this remix is unbelievable and really worth a listen. So, listen to them both below and please comment with your thoughts and opinions!
